Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved Rs 2 crore for the renovationt of Swabhab Kabi Gangadhar Meher memorial at Barpali in Bargarh district.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, 5T Secretary V.K. Pandian had visited Bargarh on June 26, 27 and reviewed various development projects and heard people’s grievances.
On June 26, Pandian had visited the birth place of poet Gangadhar Mehar and paid tributes to him in Barpali and discussed with the committee members about the development of the birthplace memorial.
Gangadhar Meher had contributed immensely to the Odia literature and language. His birthplace is like a place of pilgrimage for literature lovers and common people.
The Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the all-round development and beautification of this historical place and to make it a research center of Odia literature
Kabi Bhawan, Smriti Bhawan and Gangadhar Mehar Park will be constructed on the premises of the memorial, which would draw lakhs of visitors every year as a tourist destination.
