A violent clash between two families in Berhampur’s Redika Sahi under Bada Bazaar police limits led to the death of one man on Friday.
Police identified the deceased as K. Bhagaban Reddy. The fight broke out between Bhagaban and his brother-in-law, K. Linga Reddy, over the alleged mistreatment of an elderly woman. Linga lived with his wife Lakshmi, mother Paru, and three daughters, while Bhagaban lived nearby with his wife Jyoti.
Linga and his family had accused Bhagaban of neglecting and abusing his aged mother-in-law. Bhagaban reportedly recorded videos and photos of the woman’s condition and sent them to her other daughter living elsewhere. The exchange triggered a heated argument between the two families that soon turned violent.
During the confrontation, Linga attacked Bhagaban repeatedly with a sharp weapon. Locals rushed Bhagaban to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Bada Bazaar police arrested Linga Reddy and his wife, Lakshmi, for their involvement in the attack. Officers registered a case and began an investigation to determine the full sequence of events.
