In a significant move towards reducing litigation involving the Union of India, the Ministry of Law and Justice has unveiled the Directive for the Efficient and Effective Management of Litigation by the Government of India.
This initiative aims to simplify legal procedures, prevent unnecessary litigation, and enhance public accountability, especially in matters of arbitration.
Applicable to all Central Government Ministries, Departments, autonomous bodies, and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), the directive underscores the Government’s commitment to good governance, public welfare, and timely justice. It incorporates measures to address inconsistencies in legal notifications, reduce unwarranted appeals, and streamline inter-departmental coordination. Additionally, a robust Knowledge Management System (KMS) will be established to ensure the efficiency of legal processes.
The implementation and progress of this directive will be reviewed by the Committee of Secretaries, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, reflecting the Government’s dedication to fostering an effective legal framework for the betterment of society.
