New Delhi: The construction of the new Parliament building, a new Central Secretariat and other related complexes is likely to be done on Friday.
The redevelopment of the Central Vista that involves an iconic triangular design for the Parliament is expected to be completed by 2022. The Republic Day parade of 2022 will take place at the ‘modernised’ Rajpath, sources said.
The new Parliament building with a seating capacity of 1000 people is also slated to be completed by 2022, on the occasion of 75th Independence Day. Central Secretariat is likely to be built by 2024.
The Rs 12,879 crore project will involve shifting of residences of Prime Minister and Vice President near Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Central Secretariat will be constructed to accommodate the offices of ministries, cabinet secretaries and other key departments.
The project is expected to save the exchequer a whopping Rs 1000 crore being paid as rent by the government for offices across the national capital.
