The Central Board of Secondary Education has recalled evaluators at several centres to complete pending assessment work for the Class 12 board examinations after delays were reported in a few regions due to technical challenges linked to the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
According to reports, the evaluation process for some subjects, including Business Studies and Computer Applications, faced temporary disruptions in remote locations because of connectivity issues. Teachers were asked to return for an additional two days to complete the remaining answer sheet checking process.
Despite the delay in a limited number of centres, officials indicated that the overall result schedule is unlikely to be affected significantly.
Nearly 2 Lakh Answer Sheets Still Pending
Sources indicated that the majority of the evaluation process has already been completed smoothly across the country. However, approximately two lakh answer sheets are estimated to still be pending evaluation.
Teachers assigned to the assessment work are expected to complete the remaining checking process by May 9, 2026. Once the evaluation is fully completed, the board will move ahead with result compilation and processing.
More than 15 lakh students reportedly appeared for the Class 12 board examinations this year, generating nearly one crore answer sheets for evaluation.
What Is CBSE’s On-Screen Marking System?
This year, CBSE introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board exam evaluation to improve transparency, efficiency and security.
Under the OSM system:
- Physical answer sheets are scanned at regional centres
- Digital copies are uploaded to a central server
- Evaluators assess answer sheets online through secure login access
The system aims to reduce human error, improve marking accuracy and prevent tampering with answer sheets.
CBSE also conducted training sessions and mock evaluations for teachers before implementing the new digital evaluation process nationwide.
Technical Issues Reported in Remote Areas
While the transition to digital evaluation was largely successful, technical difficulties emerged in a few remote areas where internet connectivity affected the pace of assessment work.
Teachers reportedly faced challenges accessing uploaded answer sheets and completing evaluations within the scheduled timeframe.
To compensate for these delays, CBSE extended the evaluation period and requested additional support from teachers in urban and better-connected regions.
CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 Likely by May 12
After the evaluation process concludes, CBSE will begin post-evaluation work, including result processing and final compilation.
With the new OSM system, the board is expected to complete post-evaluation formalities much faster than previous years because physical transportation and manual uploading of answer sheets are no longer required.
Although CBSE has not officially announced the Class 12 result date yet, reports suggest the results are likely to be declared around May 12, 2026.
In previous years, CBSE Class 12 board results were announced around May 13, and a similar timeline is expected this year as well.
Students will be able to check their results through the official CBSE portal and DigiLocker once released.
