The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has struck again in its relentless probe into the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak scandal, arresting two fresh suspects and raiding 14 locations across the country in the past 24 hours.
The high-stakes operation comes just days after the agency registered the case on May 12, 2026, following a formal complaint from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
In a dramatic escalation, CBI teams swooped in on one suspect in Pune and another in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. The latest arrests bring the total to seven in under 48 hours, sending shockwaves through the education mafia allegedly behind the massive breach that has left lakhs of aspiring doctors in despair.
The Fresh Arrests
The two individuals taken into custody are:
- Mr. Dhananjay Lokhanda from Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra
- Smt. Manisha Waghmare from Pune, Maharashtra
Both have been produced before a competent court in Delhi and remanded to seven days of police custody for intensive interrogation.
Yesterday’s Haul
On May 13, CBI had already arrested five key accused: three from Jaipur, one from Gurugram, and one from Nashik. All five were presented in court today and similarly remanded to CBI custody.
Multiple other suspects are currently under grilling, with the agency’s special teams pursuing every lead nationwide. Sources say the probe is zeroing in on the full chain—from paper setters and printers to middlemen and beneficiaries.
The CBI has vowed a “comprehensive, impartial, and professional investigation” to restore faith in one of India’s most critical entrance exams. For millions of NEET aspirants and their families, the arrests offer a glimmer of hope that justice will prevail in what has become India’s biggest exam scam in recent memory.
