Authorities at the Hirakud Dam opened two sluice gates — one on the left and one on the right — on Wednesday morning as the reservoir level climbed to 625.91 feet.
According to officials, the reservoir is receiving a heavy average inflow of 2,19,651 cusecs, which continues to rise. Against this, the total outflow stands at 67,175 cusecs. Of the discharge, 32,242 cusecs are being released through the spillway, 31,992 cusecs through the power channel, 229 cusecs for industrial use, and 2,712 cusecs into the canal system.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the reservoir level shows an upward trend, with flood management measures being implemented to balance inflow and outflow.
