Police arrested five individuals—including an engineer—for abducting a businessman from Balugaon in Khurda district.
The victim, Sushil Subudhi, was rescued within hours from Chandapur in Nayagarh district after his wife filed a missing person complaint.
The mastermind behind the abduction, Suraj Dora, along with accomplices Abhijeet Patnaik, Muna Behera (both from Ganjam), and Dharmaraj Palei and Chandan Jena (from Khurdha), intercepted Subudhi late Saturday night while he was returning home after closing his shop. The gang forcibly dragged him into a car, snatched ₹20 lakh in cash, and stole his scooter.
Acting swiftly, police set up checkpoints along NH-16. Sensing danger, the accused attempted to flee but were caught after a chase. Authorities recovered Rs 6.5 lakh from the stolen bag and seized the vehicle used in the crime. All five suspects are now in custody, and further investigation is underway.
