The Second BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group will be held from June 3 to 5, 2026, at the Taj Puri Resort in Puri, under India’s current BRICS Presidency.
Senior representatives, experts, and delegates from BRICS nations and partner countries will gather to discuss critical issues in disaster management, resilience building, and enhanced international cooperation.
Delegates from Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, China, and other nations are expected to participate in the three-day technical meeting. Discussions will focus on sharing best practices, leveraging new technologies for disaster preparedness, and developing coordinated approaches to mitigate risks from natural calamities.
Odisha has been chosen as the host state in recognition of its globally acclaimed model of disaster preparedness and management. The state has earned international praise for its highly effective cyclone warning systems, community-based early warning mechanisms, timely evacuations, and robust rescue operations that have significantly reduced loss of life and property during severe weather events.
The meeting is expected to facilitate meaningful knowledge exchange among BRICS partners, promote collaborative strategies, and strengthen mutual support frameworks for disaster risk reduction. Hosting this high-level BRICS technical conference in Puri will provide a global platform to showcase Odisha’s achievements while reinforcing India’s commitment to collective resilience and sustainable development.
