Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, who recently returned home after a hospital stay, received a steady stream of visitors from his Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party on Thursday at his residence, Naveen Niwas.
The veteran leader, appearing fit and energetic, engaged in discussions on various party matters, signaling a swift return to active political life.
Patnaik had been discharged from the hospital late Wednesday night following treatment, and by Thursday morning, a host of senior BJD figures, including MLAs and former legislators, arrived to meet him. Among the prominent visitors were senior leader Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, MLA Pramila Mallik, Dibya Shankar Mishra, Nrusingha Sahu, Tukuni Sahu, Lopamudra Baxipatra, and Bijay Nayak.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak expressed optimism about Patnaik’s health. “Naveen Babu is completely fit. He spoke with us at length and assured us that he will return to the field of work very soon,” Nayak said. He added that the interaction left the leaders feeling encouraged and happy.
Nayak also addressed queries regarding V.K. Pandian emphasizing the personal nature of their relationship. “Naveen Babu is our leader, and Pandian is taking care of him. The Pandian couple is serving him like their own son and daughter. There’s no politics or power play involved here—it’s purely familial. There’s no need to be embarrassed about it,” he clarified.
Mallik echoed similar sentiments, noting Patnaik’s positive demeanor. “Naveen Babu is doing well. We met him, and he spent a lot of time talking to us. He inquired about the party’s organizational matters and understood the situation. Very soon, he will embark on district tours and participate in organizational activities,” she said.
The visits come amid speculation about Patnaik’s health and his role in steering the BJD forward after the party’s recent electoral setbacks. Party insiders view these interactions as a morale booster, reaffirming Patnaik’s central position in the opposition ranks.
As Odisha’s political landscape evolves, Patnaik’s anticipated return to active duties is expected to energize BJD cadres and intensify opposition scrutiny on the ruling government.
