Authorities have clamped down on public access to an abandoned quarry near Mitrapur in Nilagiri, following the recovery of two bodies from the water.
The Sub‑Collector has invoked BNS‑163, prohibiting all recreational activities, including YouTubers’ video shoots and picnics, at the site.
Officials said the decision was taken to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety. Entry into the quarry without permission will now be treated as a violation, with offenders facing arrest under BNS‑163 provisions.
The move comes amid growing concerns over abandoned quarries turning into unsafe gathering spots, often attracting visitors despite repeated warnings. The administration has urged residents to cooperate with the restrictions and avoid venturing into the area.
