India’s young batting sensation Devdutt Padikkal has achieved a remarkable milestone, scoring back‑to‑back Test centuries against Sri Lanka.
The left‑hander reached his hundred on Day 1 of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, guiding India to a commanding 259/3.
Padikkal, who turned 26 last month, brought up his century off 168 deliveries, showcasing composure and technique. His knock followed his maiden Test ton of 167 runs in the series opener at Galle on August 15, making him only the second left‑handed Indian batter in the 21st century to score a century at No. 3.
India, having won the first Test by 165 runs, is eyeing a dominant series victory in this ICC World Test Championship (2025‑27 cycle) fixture. Padikkal’s consistency has drawn widespread praise, with his back‑to‑back centuries underscoring his emergence as a key pillar in India’s batting lineup.
At stumps on Day 1, Padikkal remained unbeaten on 100 alongside Ravindra Jadeja (30)*, after skipper Shubman Gill fell for 50.
