A farmer named Alekh Nial, aged 53, died near his farmland in Potes village under Kalamapur police limits in Kalahandi district.

His wife, Madhabi Nial, immediately alleged murder and filed a written complaint at the Kalamapur police station.

First, Alekh went to his agricultural land around 9 a.m. to inspect crops. Later, when he did not return home, his wife began searching for him. Eventually, she found him lying on a dirt road nearly 100 meters away from the field. His body displayed severe burn injuries, and villagers quickly helped bring the body to the main road.

Soon after, the police registered a case based on the complaint. Inspector-in-Charge Bishwambar Kahnar, Sub-Inspector Shib Shankar Mohanty, and ASI Asit Kumar Panda reached the spot. They examined the circumstances carefully and collected evidence. Moreover, a scientific team arrived and gathered forensic details to support the investigation.

Afterwards, the police convinced the family and villagers to allow the body to be seized. They sent the body to Jayapatna Hospital for a post-mortem. Officials explained that the truth behind the incident would emerge only after the autopsy report.

Meanwhile, Madhabi suspected that previous enmity and land disputes might have caused her husband’s death. Villagers strongly demanded strict punishment for the culprits if murder is confirmed. They urged police to identify the accused and ensure justice.

Finally, authorities assured that the case would be investigated thoroughly. Police emphasised that facts from the post-mortem report would determine the exact cause of death. The incident created tension in the village, and residents continued to demand accountability and justice.
