Bhubaneswar: Odisha Higher Education Department has suspended the marking of attendance on Biometric Attendance System (BAS) in all state & private universities and colleges in the state as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Saswat Mishra Principal Secretary, Higher Education Dept, has written a letter to the Vice-Chancellors of all State Public and Private Universities, Principals of all Government, Aided and Unaided Colleges to suspend Biometric Attendance System with immediate effect from Saturday.
“Biometric attendance system for students, teachers and other employees shall remain suspended with effect from 08.01.2022 (Saturday) until further orders in view of Covid-19 situation. However attendance shall be recorded in physical mode,” the letter read.
The biometric attendance system makes the risk higher of catching the coronavirus disease due to its high contagion rate. Many government and private offices all over have barred the biometric system recently to stop the spread of the deadly Covid-19 and its Omicron variant.
On the other hand, the state government today ordered to shut down all colleges, universities & technical institutions, other than medical & nursing colleges, from Jan 10 and revert to online classes.
