“Mutual respect for diverse traditions strengthens national unity, “said Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati. Addressing the Bihar State Foundation Day celebration at the new Abhishek Hall of Lok Bhavan on Sunday, the Governor highlighted how coming together with open hearts fosters deep camaraderie.
Drawing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” Dr Kambhampati noted that the initiative promotes emotional unity and cultural understanding, reinforcing the concept of a nation enriched by multiple cultures.
The Governor elaborated on the strong historical and cultural bonds between Bihar and Odisha. He recalled ancient ties between Magadh and Kalinga, including the transformative Kalinga War, noting that both regions were once part of the same administrative unit before becoming separate states.
Praising Bihar’s civilizational heritage, he described it as a cradle of political power, intellectual advancement, and spiritual awakening. Key highlights included Emperor Ashoka’s transformation, Lord Buddha’s enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, Lord Mahavira’s teachings, and the world-renowned ancient Nalanda University.
Dr Kambhampati also spotlighted Bihar’s vibrant cultural traditions, such as Madhubani paintings and the Chhath festival, which symbolise harmony between human life and nature. He congratulated the Bihari community residing in Odisha for their significant contributions to the state’s development and cultural life.

“Such cultural exchange events strengthen inter-state relations and contribute to national integration,” the Governor said. “India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity. These bonds will guide us towards a stronger and more inclusive future.”
First Lad, Smt. Jayashree Kambhampati was also present. The event featured insights from senior officials, including ADGP (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, Accountant General Atul Prakash, and Assistant Welfare Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Verma, who shared experiences on Bihar-Odisha relations. Governor’s Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr Roopa Roshan Sahoo delivered the welcome address.
Cultural programs organised by various institutions and the Odisha government’s Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture added vibrancy to the occasion. Biharis settled in Odisha also shared their personal experiences.
