Bhubaneswar witnessed its coldest night in over a decade as the minimum temperature plunged to 9.4 degrees Celsius, breaking a 13-year-old record, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The last time the city experienced such low temperatures was in 2012, when the mercury had dipped to 9.3 degrees Celsius.

Odisha continues to reel under a severe cold wave, with temperatures falling sharply across the state. The IMD has warned that the prevailing cold conditions are likely to persist for the next two weeks, driven by the inflow of dry and cold northerly winds.

Several regions across Odisha have been experiencing chilly winds and dense fog, worsening discomfort for residents, particularly during early morning and night hours. As per official data, minimum temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius or below have been recorded in 24 towns across the state.

For the first time this winter season, Odisha’s minimum temperature has dropped close to the 2-degree mark. G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 2.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Semiliguda at 3.2 degrees Celsius. Phulbani registered a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, while Rourkela and Jharsuguda recorded 5.4 degrees Celsius and 5.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Meteorological officials have advised people to take necessary precautions, especially senior citizens, children, and those with health vulnerabilities, as cold wave conditions are expected to continue in the coming days.
