The Commissionerate Police unveiled a comprehensive security plan ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations to safeguard citizens during large gatherings and tourist inflow in the Odisha capital.
To begin, Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh addressed the media and confirmed the deployment of over 15 platoons of force across the city. He further outlined measures such as intensified patrolling, plainclothes surveillance in crowded areas, and strict enforcement of time restrictions for “Zero Night” celebrations on December 31.
Next, Singh emphasised, “Public safety is our top priority during the holiday season. We are implementing multi-layered security to prevent any untoward incidents and allow citizens to celebrate responsibly.”
Moreover, the heightened vigilance follows national concerns over crowd safety, particularly after a tragic nightclub fire in Goa claimed 25 lives earlier this month. Authorities also stressed that venues hosting events will undergo stringent checks for fire safety compliance and crowd management protocols.
In addition, police announced traffic regulations in key areas, anti-drunk driving checkpoints, and close monitoring of hotels, pubs, and public spaces. They urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and promptly report suspicious activities.
