With Cyclone ‘Arnab’ intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Charan Das has issued an urgent appeal to all party leaders, office-bearers, and workers to step forward and assist people across affected districts.
In an official circular (Letter No. 421 / OPC / 26) issued from Congress Bhawan on Tuesday, Oct 27, 2026, Das highlighted that meteorological reports predict heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, raising flood concerns in major rivers, including the Rushikulya, Nagavali, Budhabalanga, Mahanadi, Subarnarekha, Baitarani, and Brahmani.
Alerts have already been sounded across several coastal, southern, western, and interior districts of Odisha.
Reflecting on past relief operations during severe floods in coastal Odisha, Das emphasised that while government administration prepares for disaster management, administrative reach often falls short in reaching every affected individual. He stated that standing by people during such emergency situations remains the primary duty of Congress cadres.
The OPCC Chief instructed all district Congress presidents to immediately circulate the appeal down to the grassroots level. He urged party members to coordinate continuously with local administrative officers to expedite rescue and relief operations across affected regions.
