A woman’s skeletal remains were found inside a locked house in Bengaluru nearly a year after she is suspected to have died, raising questions about how she remained unaccounted for so long.
Police identified the deceased as 52-year-old Dakshayini, who reportedly lived alone at the duplex.
The remains were discovered after local residents alerted the police about her prolonged absence.
Woman Lived Alone After Husband’s Death
According to preliminary police findings, Dakshayini had been living alone since the death of her husband, Umesh, around 10 years ago.
Her son later died of cancer. Police are looking into whether these events affected her mental and emotional well-being.
Investigators suspect Dakshayini may have died around a year before her remains were discovered.
Locals Alert Police After Prolonged Absence
Residents reportedly became concerned after Dakshayini had not been seen for a long period.
Police reached the house and broke open the door. Inside, they found her skeletal remains.
The house had reportedly remained locked for months. As the remains had decomposed over time, there was apparently no strong smell outside the house to alert neighbours.
Daughter, Son-in-Law Questioned
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Dakshayini’s death and the events leading up to it.
Her daughter and son-in-law are being questioned as part of the inquiry. Investigators are also examining why no one had been in regular contact with Dakshayini for such a long period.
Police are yet to establish the exact cause and circumstances of her death.
The investigation is ongoing.
