The 44th Foundation Day of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) was celebrated at Jayadev Bhavan on Tuesday, with Minister for Housing and Urban Development and BDA Chairman Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra launching the brochure of the upcoming Subudhipur Ekamra Residency housing project.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahapatra said the project would provide residents of Bhubaneswar with a modern and sustainable living experience equipped with essential amenities. He emphasised that developing Bhubaneswar was crucial to making Odisha a leading state.

“BDA does not merely build houses; it works according to the needs of the people,” he said, adding that the government’s objective was to transform Bhubaneswar into a world-class city. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the administration and citizens to provide dream homes, improve sewage and drainage systems, and preserve green spaces.

Describing Town Planning (T.P.) schemes as the “backbone of people’s hopes”, the Minister said planned development would provide necessary amenities, increase land values and benefit citizens.

Spread over 7.36 acres at Subudhipur, Ekamra Residency comprises three B+G+12 residential towers offering spacious two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments. The project has been designed to provide a modern and sustainable living experience with world-class amenities, including RCC-framed earthquake-resistant structures, landscaped open spaces, a swimming pool, gymnasium, community hall, children’s play area, jogging track, sewage treatment plant, water recharge system, power backup, CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems and other supporting infrastructure.

Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh urged the BDA to accord priority to housing projects for the urban poor and said the authority would play an important role in the development of the city and the country.

BDA Vice Chairman Chanchal Rana said Bhubaneswar was not merely the State capital but also the “face and future of Odisha”. He said the upcoming 20-year development plan would integrate planned urbanisation, roads, drainage, affordable housing, parks, playgrounds and social infrastructure.

“Planning alone is not enough. Proper implementation, accountability and citizen cooperation can transform the capital into a world-class city,” Rana said.

The BDA Annual Report was also released during the programme, while the BDA Secretary Manas Ranjan Padhi presented its highlights. Additional Commissioner Snigdha Rani Dhal proposed the vote of thanks. Senior officials and employees of the BDA attended the event.
