The Odisha Water Resources Department has issued a flood warning as the Subarnarekha river continues to rise above the danger mark, threatening to affect four blocks in Baleshwar district.
Engineer‑in‑Chief Dillip Kumar Rout said during a press briefing that the river is expected to remain above the danger level until Thursday evening, with Jaleswar, Bhograi, Basta and Baliapal blocks likely to face inundation.
Rout clarified that no other major river in the state is currently facing a flood situation. The Budhabalanga river, which had earlier risen, has begun to recede, offering relief to affected areas. The Mahanadi basin also shows signs of improvement as rainfall has reduced.
Officials remain on high alert, monitoring the Subarnarekha’s rising waters and preparing for possible flooding in northern Odisha.
