The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 encountered an unexpected crisis as the highly anticipated Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match at the HPCA Stadium was abruptly called off by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The decision came following security concerns amid rising cross-border tensions, prompting urgent evacuation measures.
Spectators witnessed the floodlights switching off, signalling the premature end of the clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
While officials cited a technical failure in the area leading to the power outage, speculation grew regarding its potential connection to ongoing military actions in nearby Jammu, located approximately 200 km away from Dharamsala.
In response to the unfolding situation, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla assured fans and stakeholders that the league remains committed to the safety of players and staff. “We are arranging a special train from close to Dharamsala to ensure safe transport for all players, officials, and the broadcast crew,” he stated, confirming the stadium’s evacuation.
As tensions rise, the fate of the tournament hangs in the balance. While the cancellation of this match is a precautionary move, BCCI officials have hinted that further decisions regarding IPL 2025’s continuity will be made after evaluating the situation.
Fans and teams await updates as discussions take place at the highest level of Indian cricket administration.
