BCCI Fines Shreyas Iyer Rs 12 Lakh for Slow Over Rate in PBKS Win Over CSK

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh by the BCCI for a slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.

“As this was PBKS’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh,” stated the official BCCI release.

The penalty stems from a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct related to maintaining the minimum over rate, a common offence but one that does not attract demerit points for captains on the first instance.

Despite the fine, Iyer had a night to remember—scoring a blazing 72 off 41 balls—as Punjab Kings cruised to a dominant win over CSK. The captain is unlikely to be too troubled by the penalty, considering the result and his impactful performance.
