In a major boost for teacher education in Odisha, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has withdrawn the show-cause notices issued against all 15 government teacher training institutions in the state.
The Eastern Regional Committee (ERC) of NCTE took the decision during its 410th meeting held on October 1, 2026. After a thorough review of the compliance reports submitted by the institutions and the lists of faculty members approved by the concerned universities, the ERC concluded that no further action was required.
This development has come as a significant relief for the colleges, their faculty, and the hundreds of students pursuing B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes across the state. Officials noted that the decision reflects strong coordination between the Higher Education Department of the Odisha government, the teacher training institutions, and the affiliating universities.
The institutions had earlier faced scrutiny under NCTE regulations. Following detailed examination of their replies and supporting documents, the ERC decided to drop the proceedings against all 15 colleges.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step that brings much-needed certainty to teacher education in Odisha and reinforces confidence among students and educators.
