The Pakistan Army opened unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu & Kashmir for the seventh consecutive night, the Indian Army confirmed on Wednesday.
“During the night of April 30–May 1, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire. These were responded to proportionately by the Indian Army,” said Defence PRO Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal.
The fresh violation comes amid a surge in India-Pakistan tensions following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists. India blames cross-border elements for the strike and has since taken tough diplomatic and military stances, including:
-
Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
-
Closure of airspace to Pakistani flights
-
Ceasefire violation warnings
On Tuesday, Indian military officials issued a stern warning via the DGMO-level hotline, urging Pakistan to refrain from further ceasefire violations. Despite this, Pakistani troops continued night-time provocations along the LoC.
These actions are seen as part of a broader pattern of escalation from Islamabad, particularly after India’s retaliatory diplomatic steps post-Pahalgam.
