German giants Bayern Munich secured their spot in the knockout phase of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over South American powerhouse Boca Juniors on Friday.
The tense affair reached its climax in the 84th minute when Michael Olise rifled home the decisive goal after a frantic sequence in the box. Harry Kane, who had earlier given Bayern the lead, played a pivotal role in the buildup, cushioning the ball into Olise’s path for the match-winner.
Kane had opened the scoring in the first half with a composed left-footed finish, capitalising on a clever assist from Kingsley Coman. But Boca Juniors clawed their way back in the 66th minute through Miguel Merentiel, who weaved past Bayern’s defense before lobbing Manuel Neuer to level the match.
Despite the Argentine club’s spirited response, it wasn’t enough. Boca, now with only one point from two matches, faces a do-or-die clash against Auckland City in Nashville. To progress, Boca must win convincingly and hope Bayern defeats Benfica in their final group encounter.
The result leaves Bayern at the top of Group C with six points and firm momentum heading into the next round.
