A message posted on the official X account of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned Israel of serious consequences following reports that he was killed in a joint military strike carried out by the United States and Israel.
The message appeared days after reports surfaced claiming that the long-time Iranian leader died during coordinated airstrikes targeting key Iranian government and military facilities in Tehran. The post described the alleged attack as a “big mistake” and suggested that Israel would face severe repercussions.
“The Zionist regime has made a big mistake, and its consequences will make the regime desperate, by God’s grace,” the message read.
Alleged Strike Targeted Khamenei’s Compound
According to emerging reports, the strikes focused on a heavily guarded compound near Pasteur Street in Tehran. Intelligence agencies from the United States and Israel reportedly spent years monitoring the area and tracking the movements of senior Iranian leadership before the operation was executed.
Sources claim that Israeli aircraft dropped multiple precision-guided munitions on the complex after authorization from US leadership. The operation was described as part of a broader campaign targeting high-ranking Iranian officials and strategic military assets.
Iran Announces National Mourning
Following the reports of Khamenei’s death, Iranian authorities announced a three-day farewell ceremony for the cleric. The ceremony is expected to take place at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla prayer complex, one of the largest religious venues in the country.
State media outlets said the ceremonies would allow citizens to pay tribute to the leader who guided the Islamic Republic for more than three decades.
Leadership Uncertainty in Iran
Khamenei, who became Iran’s Supreme Leader in 1989, played a central role in shaping the country’s political and military strategy. His reported death has triggered widespread speculation about who could succeed him.
Several analysts believe his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, could emerge as a possible successor. However, Iranian officials have not issued any formal confirmation regarding the future leadership of the Islamic Republic.
Rising Tensions in the Middle East
The alleged assassination has intensified geopolitical tensions across the Middle East. Analysts warn that the situation could significantly affect regional stability and international relations.
US President Donald Trump reportedly said he wanted to be closely involved in decisions related to Iran’s future leadership and cautioned against any continuation of policies associated with the late leader.
Global observers are now watching developments closely as governments across the region assess the potential consequences of the incident.
