Three motorcycle riders lost their lives in a tragic accident at Anantapur under the Pahala police station limits in Bhubaneswar late Friday night.
A sand-laden Hyva truck rammed into their motorcycle around 12:30 am, killing all three instantly.
Police said the truck first hit the motorcycle from behind and then ran over the riders. The driver fled immediately after the collision. Preliminary reports suggest the identities of the deceased have not yet been established.
Pahala police reached the spot soon after receiving information, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. Investigators are working to identify the victims using the motorcycle’s registration number. Initial suspicion indicates the motorcycle may have been stolen.
Authorities are also trying to trace the truck owner. Police have launched a probe with assistance from locals and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas. Questions have been raised about how three individuals were travelling on a single motorcycle at the time of the accident.
