Asish Chandra Mohanty, a senior Indian Revenue Service officer from the 2005 batch, assumed charge as Director of the Income Tax Department’s Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Directorate in Bhubaneswar.
He earlier served successfully as Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals, Unit 1) in Cuttack.
Mohanty brings over two decades of experience in tax administration. He has held key positions in the Central Board of Direct Taxes, including the Tax Policy Division and the Directorate of Investigation in New Delhi. His expertise in tackling tax evasion and financial crimes has earned him recognition within the department.
The CBDT is currently running nationwide awareness campaigns to curb tax evasion. These initiatives involve direct engagement with financial reporting agencies to secure confidential data and strengthen enforcement. Officials believe Mohanty’s appointment will energise the Odisha region’s tax administration and enhance its ability to combat economic offences.
