Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested the Assistant Revenue Officer in Khurda district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The accused has been identified as Kailash Chandra Behera, Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI) of Sorana RI Circle under Chilika Tahasil, Dist- Khurda.
Behera was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking a bribe from a functionary (Complainant) of Chilika Adrabhumi Sangrakshyana of Sorana for furnishing a favourable report in respect of some landless villagers including the sons of the complainant under RI Sorana for getting land under Vasundhara Yojana of Govt. of Odisha in R&DM Department (A scheme meant for landless people to be provide with land). The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Sri Behera, ARI and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations in Behera, ARI from a DA angle.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 01/2025 U/s 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. The investigation is in progress against the accused.
It is pertinent to mention here that accused ARI Kailash Chandra Behera was earlier arrested by Odisha Vigilance in Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 11/2016 under PC Act, while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs. 5000/-. The case is now sub-judice.
