Apple has officially launched its much-anticipated iPhone 17 series, introducing four models — the iPhone 17, the all-new iPhone Air, and the flagship iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

This year’s lineup brings Apple’s boldest design and performance upgrades yet, with Pro-level features trickling down to the base model and a new “Air” variant that takes the crown as the thinnest iPhone ever at just 5.6mm.

iPhone 17: Big Leap for the Base Model

Price: Rs 82,900 onwards

For the first time, Apple’s entry-level iPhone gets ProMotion technology on its 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display, offering a variable refresh rate from 120Hz down to 1Hz for smooth scrolling and always-on display support. Peak brightness hits 3,000 nits, making it one of the brightest displays on any smartphone. The screen is protected by Ceramic Shield 2 with a seven-layer anti-reflective coating, which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant.

Under the hood, the A19 chip (3nm) powers faster AI processing, a new display engine, and a five-core GPU delivering 20% better graphics performance. Apple Intelligence features, including Visual Intelligence and Live Translation, are supported out of the box via iOS 26.

Battery life sees a significant boost with 8 extra hours of video playback compared to its predecessor. Fast charging allows a 50% charge in just 20 minutes when using Apple’s 40W adapter or higher.

Camera Upgrades

  • Dual 48MP rear cameras: Fusion main sensor with optical-quality 2x telephoto and a Fusion Ultra-Wide with macro capability.

  • 18MP Center Stage front camera with AI framing and Dual Capture mode for simultaneous front-and-rear video recording.

Specifications

  • Display: 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR, ProMotion (1–120Hz), 3000 nits peak brightness

  • Processor: A19

  • Storage: 256GB / 512GB

  • Battery: Up to 30 hours video playback, 50% charge in 20 mins

  • Colours: Black, White, Mist Blue, Sage, Lavender

  • Water Resistance: IP68

iPhone Air: Apple’s Thinnest iPhone Yet

Price: Rs 1,19,900 onwards

Replacing the Plus model, the new iPhone Air is just 5.6mm thin and features a Grade-5 titanium chassis with a mirror finish. It sports a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR ProMotion display with 3,000-nit peak brightness and always-on support.

Inside, it runs on the A19 Pro chip, which Apple claims delivers MacBook Pro-level GPU performance. The Air debuts the N1 wireless chip (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread) and an upgraded C1X modem. It’s Apple’s first global eSIM-only iPhone, signaling a full transition away from physical SIM cards.

Camera hardware includes a 48MP Fusion system with OIS, plus an 18MP Center Stage front camera with Dual Capture support. Apple rates it for all-day battery life, with a new slim MagSafe battery pack extending playback up to 40 hours.

Specifications

  • Display: 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR, ProMotion (1–120Hz)

  • Processor: A19 Pro

  • Storage: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB

  • Battery: Up to 27 hours video playback, 50% charge in 30 mins

  • Colours: Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, Sky Blue

  • Water Resistance: IP68

  • Thickness: 5.6mm

iPhone 17 Pro & Pro Max: Peak Performance for Power Users

Price: Rs 1,34,900 onwards (Pro) / Rs 1,49,900 onwards (Pro Max)

Apple’s flagship Pro models see a major design overhaul with a forged aluminium unibody, a broad Plateau camera layout, and a new ceramic shield section on the back. Thermal performance improves with a laser-welded vapour chamber, delivering up to 40% better sustained performance.

The Pro Max sets a new benchmark with 37 hours of video playback, the longest battery life on any iPhone to date.

Camera & Video Capabilities

  • Triple 48MP Fusion camera system with a new telephoto Fusion lens.

  • Optical zoom: 4x (100mm) and 8x (200mm), with digital zoom up to 40x.

  • Video features: ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, genlock support for multi-camera professional workflows.

Specifications

  • Display: 6.3-inch (Pro) / 6.9-inch (Pro Max) Super Retina XDR, ProMotion

  • Processor: A19 Pro

  • Storage: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB (Pro Max only)

  • Battery: Up to 31 hrs (Pro) / 37 hrs (Pro Max), 50% charge in 20 mins

  • Colours: Silver, Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue

  • Water Resistance: IP68

Key Takeaway

The iPhone 17 series brings Pro-level technology to every model, introduces the slimmest iPhone ever, and sets a new benchmark for performance, photography, and battery life. With eSIM-only connectivity on the Air, Apple signals the future of mobile technology — thinner, faster, and more integrated.
