Union Home Minister Amit Shah met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, fueling speculation about an impending reshuffle in the Union Council of Ministers.
The meeting followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the President two days earlier, adding to political chatter in Delhi.
The President’s office shared a photo of Shah’s meeting on X, noting, “Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Shri Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.” The timing of these meetings has drawn attention as the BJP recently made key organisational changes and did not renominate several ministers to the Rajya Sabha.
Former Minister of State George Kurian resigned after his Rajya Sabha term ended on June 21. Kurian, who handled Minority Affairs and Fisheries, was not renominated by the party. Similarly, Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh, whose term also ended on June 21, was not reappointed.
The BJP has also assigned new organisational roles to several ministers. Union Minister Harsh Malhotra was appointed Delhi BJP chief in May, while Pankaj Chaudhary took charge of the Uttar Pradesh unit last December.
With Shah and Modi meeting the President and several ministers shifting roles, speculation over a Cabinet reshuffle has intensified. Political observers believe the changes could reflect the party’s strategy for upcoming state elections and governance priorities.
