In an upsetting match at the All England Badminton Championships, double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu was defeated in straight games by her long-time rival, An Se Young of Korea. Despite Sindhu’s valiant efforts, she was unable to counter the world No. 1 Korean player’s dominance, resulting in a 19-21, 11-21 loss in a match that lasted 42 minutes.
This marks Sindhu’s seventh consecutive defeat to the indomitable An Se Young, the first Korean woman singles player to win the World Championships last year. An Se Young has continued her winning streak this season with victories in Malaysia and France.
Sindhu, who is currently recovering from a left knee injury, attempted to take the offensive in the match. However, her 22-year-old opponent skillfully varied the pace of the rallies and effectively utilised her range of strokes.
Sindhu’s performance took a downhill after the break in the second game, with errors accumulating which eventually made her lose the match.
