A third-year B.Tech student from KIIT University, identified as Arnab Mukherjee from Bankura, West Bengal, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Mancheswar police station area on Tuesday.

The incident has sparked concerns, as it marks the second suspicious death of a KIIT student within two months.

Body Discovered in Under-Construction Building
Arnab’s body was found inside an under-construction building, far from his hostel. Local residents alerted the police, who recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem at Capital Hospital to determine the cause of death.

Authorities are investigating how he left his hostel and ended up in Mancheswar. The cause of death remains unclear, with police probing possible foul play, suicide, or an accident.

Police Investigation Underway
A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the police are:

  • Reviewing CCTV footage
  • Interrogating hostel mates
  • Analyzing call records

Further details will be revealed after the post-mortem report. So far, KIIT University has not commented on the incident.

Second Tragic Death in Two Months
This follows the February 16 death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student at KIIT, which sparked protests and an NHRC probe into student safety and university accountability.

The NHRC held KIIT responsible for negligence, directing the Odisha Chief Secretary to submit an action taken report. Concerns over student security at KIIT continue to rise after the latest tragedy.
