A sports teacher has been arrested by Dabugaon police in Nabarangpur district for allegedly duping over 20 tribal youths of lakhs of rupees under the pretext of providing government and private jobs.
The accused, Asutosh Gantayat of Gouda Sahi in Nabarangpur, is working as a sports teacher at the Jatabal Ashram School in the Papadahandi block. According to police, Asutosh frequently visited Garudaguda village under Dabugaon police station limits to watch cockfights, during which he befriended local youths.
In January, he promised them jobs in different organisations and took Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 from each person. When the jobs did not materialise even after a long wait, the victims confronted Ashutosh in Nabarangpur. Unsatisfied with his response, they filed a complaint at Dabugaon police station on Wednesday night.
Police registered a case under Section 318(4) of the BNS and arrested the accused following an interrogation. Authorities are now expanding the probe, as similar allegations of job fraud have surfaced from other parts of the district.
