The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has removed Rohit Yadav from India’s U‑19 squads for the upcoming one‑day and multi‑day series against Australia after discrepancies were found in his age records.
According to the official release, Aryan Savsani of Saurashtra replaces Rohit in the one‑day squad, while Tanmay Baloda of Haryana comes in for the multi‑day fixtures.
“Rohit, who was named in India’s U‑19 squads for the upcoming fixtures against Australia U‑19 at Rajkot and Ahmedabad, has been withdrawn from the squad due to age discrepancies,” the BCCI statement read.
Sportstar earlier reported that Rohit had been handed a two‑year ban after multiple changes were found in his Aadhaar records, including alterations to his date of birth and address. The leg‑spinner, who plays for Bengal, had previously toured Sri Lanka with the U‑19 side, claiming six wickets in a Youth Test.
The updated squads feature captains Lakshya Raichandani (one‑day) and Yashbardhan Chauhan (multi‑day), with key players including wicketkeepers Rajat Baghel, Anvay Dravid, Manav Krishna, and Abhipray Biswas.
The controversy has once again highlighted the issue of age fraud in Indian cricket, even as the young side prepares to take on Australia in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
