With continuous rainfall in the upper catchment, authorities at the Hirakud reservoir have increased discharge by opening seven gates—five on the left and two on the right.
According to the dam control room, the water level has reached 627.45 feet. The reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of 1,75,766 cusecs per second, while the total outflow stands at 1,47,914 cusecs.
Breakdown of discharge:
- Spillway: 1,13,722 cusecs
- Power channel: 31,365 cusecs
- Industrial use: 229 cusecs
- Canals: 2,712 cusecs
Downstream river flow readings:
- Mundali: 2.28 lakh cusecs
- Barmul: 1,39,250 cusecs
- Khairmal: 1,27,000 cusecs
- Patharla: 50,154 cusecs
- Belgaon: 19,500 cusecs
Officials said water levels downstream are gradually receding, reducing the likelihood of a major flood situation. However, residents in low‑lying riverbank areas have been advised to remain cautious.
