The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in three districts of Odisha — Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, and Sundaragada — as wet weather continues to grip the state.
Officials said several parts of these districts are likely to witness intense rainfall, while 11 districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagada, Khordha, Puri, and Kataka may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at speeds of 30–40 kmph.
The alert comes amid warnings of cyclonic rain activity across coastal and northern Odisha, with conditions expected to persist for the next five days.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas. Farmers and fishermen have also been advised to take preventive measures against possible crop damage and rough sea conditions.
The IMD emphasised that the yellow warning is a precautionary measure, highlighting the need for preparedness as Odisha braces for another spell of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
