Police in Rayagada district achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling an inter‑district robbery syndicate, arresting 12 members and seizing large quantities of gold, silver, vehicles, and tools used in thefts.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Raj Prasad, with SDPOs Gourahari Sahu and Babuli Nayak leading a special team. Officers from Rayagada, Tikiri, Gunupur, Andirakanch, Doraguda, and Chandili police stations, along with intelligence, raid, and cyber units, carried out coordinated raids across multiple locations.
Police recovered over 240 grams of gold, 581 grams of silver, 12 mobile phones, burglary tools, and vehicles including an Ertiga, Bolero Neo, Chevrolet car, and a Royal Enfield Bullet. Investigations revealed the gang operated with meticulous planning, targeting locked houses, breaking open doors with specialised equipment, and later melting stolen ornaments to disguise them before pledging or selling at low prices.
The arrested accused hail from Rayagada, Kashipur, Chandili, Tikiri, and Kalyansinghpur areas, with police confirming they have over 15 prior cases registered across Rayagada, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts. All accused have been produced in court.
