Ms Bhesamati Naik of Tileimal village, Jharsuguda, was invited to attend the prestigious ‘At‑Home’ Reception hosted by the President of India on Independence Day.
Her presence at Rashtrapati Bhavan marked a milestone in her inspiring journey from a rural background to professional success.
A successful candidate of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU‑GKY), implemented in Odisha with support from ORMAS, Ms Naik trained in the Hospitality trade in 2016 under Multicare Services India Pvt. Ltd. Despite financial challenges that prevented higher studies, she embraced skill training as a pathway to employment.
Starting her career in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, with a modest salary of Rs 6,000, she steadily advanced through dedication and perseverance. Today, she serves as an office attendant at IIM Sambalpur, earning Rs 35,000 per month. Beyond financial stability, her success has uplifted her family and improved their living conditions.
Her journey exemplifies the transformative power of skill development and livelihood programmes, inspiring rural youth to overcome socio‑economic barriers. Her recognition at Rashtrapati Bhavan is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the impact of DDU‑GKY and ORMAS in empowering Odisha’s rural communities.
For Jharsuguda and Odisha, Ms Naik’s story is a beacon of hope, encouraging more young people to pursue skills, secure dignified livelihoods, and contribute to the nation’s growth.
