AIIMS Bhubaneswar has been conferred the prestigious title of “Emerging Government Institution in Organ Transplantation” during the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day (IODD) celebrations in New Delhi.
The event was organised by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
The award was presented by Union Minister of State Smt. Anupriya Patel, in the presence of senior officials including Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, Dr Loveneesh G. Krishna, Shri Vijay Nehra, and Dr Anil Kumar.
Receiving the honour on behalf of AIIMS Bhubaneswar were Dr Anita Saxena, Dr Ashutosh Biswas, Dr Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, and Dr Bramhadatta Pattnaik.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar was recognised for its rapid progress in organ transplantation, with procedures rising from 16 in 2024 to 63 in 2025. Since inception, the institute has successfully performed 78 kidney transplants (61 living donor and 17 deceased donor), alongside six organ donations, four living donor liver transplants, and one deceased donor liver transplant.
Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas credited the achievement to the dedication of transplant teams, intensive care specialists, nursing staff, coordinators, and donor families. He reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to expanding transplant services and promoting organ donation awareness across Eastern India.
This recognition makes AIIMS Bhubaneswar the only AIIMS in the country to receive such a national honour, underscoring its leadership in advanced transplant care.
