A shocking incident of violence between migrant workers and locals has rocked Jagannath Prasad village under Naktideul police limits in Sambalpur district.

A West Bengal‑based mason, identified as Hijbul, allegedly attacked a local labourer, Tuna Mahara of Marwadimunda village, with a sharp weapon following a heated argument on Saturday night.

According to police sources, Hijbul, who had been camping in the area with his team for house‑construction work, allegedly slit the victim’s neck with a sharp tool after a verbal clash. The injured worker was first taken to Naktideul hospital, then shifted to Redhakhol sub‑divisional hospital, and later referred to VIMSAR Burla as his condition worsened.

Police have detained six West Bengal migrant masons and labourers for questioning. The incident has triggered tension in Redhakhol and Naktideul, prompting police to maintain strict vigil to prevent unrest.

Locals allege that the influx of migrant masons and workers from West Bengal and Bangladesh has been rising across the region, often leading to disputes and exploitation of local labourers. Residents claim that some outsiders have also been involved in misconduct with local women, fueling resentment and demands for their removal from the area.

Police have assured that the investigation will continue and further arrests may follow if evidence emerges.
