In a significant move to make the electoral process more inclusive, the Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha till 19 August 2026.
The official notification, published today in the Extraordinary issue of the Odisha Gazette by the Home (Elections) Department, confirms the extension. The draft electoral rolls were published on 5 July 2026, with the original window for claims and objections running from 5 July to 4 August 2026.
Acting on a request from Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan and exercising powers under the proviso to Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, the Commission has granted additional time. The revision is being carried out with 1 July 2026 as the qualifying date.
This means any eligible citizen whose name is missing from the draft rolls, or who finds errors in existing entries, can now submit applications until 19 August. Fresh registrations can be filed through Form-6, deletions through Form-7, and corrections through Form-8. All citizens who have completed 18 years of age as on 1 July 2026 are urged to utilise this extended opportunity.
According to the revised schedule, the process of issuing notices, hearings and disposal of claims and objections will continue until 17 September 2026. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on 21 September 2026.
Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan has appealed to all eligible citizens to take full advantage of the extended period and ensure their names are correctly included in the voter list. The Special Intensive Revision aims to enrol the maximum number of eligible voters and make the electoral rolls more accurate and comprehensive.
The extension underscores the Election Commission’s commitment to a transparent and voter-friendly process ahead of future elections in the state.
