Floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have caused seven breaches in Bhadrak district, with two along the Salandi river and five near Nalia, disrupting local connectivity.

Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra assured that rice distribution remains unaffected: “July quota has already been delivered, and adequate stock is available in all districts. Under Annapurna Yojana, households have sufficient rice. Dry food has also reached flood‑hit areas.”

Meanwhile, Animal Resources Minister Gokula Nanda Mallik reported that 4.88 lakh domestic animals across nine districts have been impacted. To mitigate losses, 58 veterinary teams have been deployed, conducting health camps at 245 locations, treating over 15,000 animals and distributing 263 metric tonnes of fodder.

In Niali (Kataka district), villagers expressed concern after stone packing along the Debi river embankment collapsed under strong currents. Authorities are attempting repairs using sandbags to prevent further damage.

At Hirakud Dam, inflow and outflow remain balanced at 3,89,707 cusecs, with the water level recorded at 625.47 feet. Currently, water is being released through 22 sluice gates, ensuring controlled discharge.

The situation underscores the dual challenge of safeguarding infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted food and livestock support amid Odisha’s ongoing monsoon floods.
