Raurkela Police cracked an attempted SBI ATM loot case within 24 hours, arresting the accused from Manoharpur in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.
The incident occurred at Jaraikela SBI ATM during the intervening night of July 30–31. A special investigation team was formed immediately, relying on technical surveillance, scientific evidence, CCTV footage, intelligence inputs, and interstate coordination.
The accused, identified as Subham Mahato (22) of Mahuldiha village, was apprehended with Rs 8,300 cash, an iron rod, and two keypad mobile phones linked to the offence. Police confirmed that the ATM’s Rs 21.44 lakh cash remained intact.
Preliminary probe suggests Mahato’s involvement in other criminal cases, with investigators examining possible links to an interstate network. Police hailed the detection as proof of their professionalism and capability to crack serious property crimes swiftly.
