Police intercepted a pickup van carrying eight cattle illegally near Arabandh village under Berhampur police station in Baleshwar district late last night.
Acting on local alerts, officers stopped the speeding vehicle and discovered the animals crammed inside.
Authorities confirmed that the van originated from Udala and was heading through Arabandh road when suspicious villagers noticed its unusual movement. They chased the vehicle and informed police, who quickly intervened.
One person was arrested in connection with the case, while the van and cattle were seized. Police sources revealed that this route has witnessed repeated complaints of illegal cattle transport in recent months, raising concerns among residents.
The investigation continues as officials aim to curb the growing menace of unlawful livestock trafficking in the region.
