The Odisha government has directed district collectors of flood‑affected areas to submit detailed damage assessment reports within three days to enable compensation for affected families.

Revenue and Disaster Management Secretary Arabinda Padhee said the reports must include details of crop losses, damaged houses and other destruction. “Compensation will be provided based on these reports,” he stated.

According to the latest flood status report, five districts—Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar—have been hit, impacting 50 blocks, 356 gram panchayats, 1,084 villages, 11 urban local bodies and 169 wards.

Official figures show 5,87,822 people affected, with 1,76,073 evacuated to safer locations. 21 villages remain marooned, including 17 in Balasore and four in Kendujhar.

Floodwaters have damaged 16,187 hectares of agricultural land, with Jajpur recording the highest crop loss at 11,497 hectares, followed by Mayurbhanj (3,754 hectares) and Kendujhar (936 hectares). Additionally, 1,020 houses have been damaged, including 654 in Balasore, 278 in Mayurbhanj and 88 in Kendujhar.

To aid residents, the government has opened 464 relief camps across affected districts. Relief distribution includes polythene sheets, food supplies and safe drinking water, while NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Services teams are deployed for rescue and relief.

Despite widespread flooding, officials reported no human casualties so far, though 1,310 livestock deaths have been recorded.

Authorities have urged people to avoid flood‑affected roads and follow advisories, while district administrations continue rescue, relief and restoration efforts to ensure timely compensation and recovery.
