Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, inaugurated the two‑day orientation programme ‘Prarambh’ for newly elected and nominated Members of the Upper House following the 2026 biennial elections.
Addressing the inaugural session, Shri Radhakrishnan congratulated the 67 first‑time Members and described the Rajya Sabha as the cornerstone of India’s federal democracy. He said, “We are united by one document—the Constitution; one vision—Nation First (Rashtra Pratham); and one goal—a Viksit Bharat @ 2047.”
He urged Members to uphold the sanctity of Question Hour and Zero Hour, stressing that debates and discussions must lead to decisions. “Every policy you frame, every question you ask, every law you enact and every discussion you participate in has the potential to improve countless lives,” he said.
Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, in his welcome address, reminded Members that they are entering Parliament during Amrit Kaal and can play a pivotal role in shaping a Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Shri Radhakrishnan encouraged legislators to master parliamentary rules, ethics, and digital tools, noting that Parliament has entered the era of Artificial Intelligence. He highlighted innovations such as Vani Setu, which enables real‑time multilingual interpretation in the Rajya Sabha Chamber.
Concluding his address, the Chairman urged Members to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to public service, saying that while elections are won by votes, respect is earned through service to the people.
