The post-mortem report in the death of Inspector-in-Charge Beauty Mohanty of Chauliaganj Police Station has confirmed asphyxia as the cause of death.
The findings have raised serious questions about whether the incident was suicide or murder.
Beauty’s body was discovered inside her official quarters. Investigators are now examining if she was strangled or if other factors led to suffocation. The report has prompted police to widen their probe, focusing on multiple angles.
Authorities have already questioned a police personnel from Pahala Police Station and seized his mobile phone for forensic analysis. Call records of the deceased officer are under scrutiny, with investigators awaiting full extraction of data from her two mobile phones, including an iPhone sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar. Technical issues have delayed access to one of the devices.
Police are also probing financial aspects, suspecting a money dispute may be linked to the case. Beauty’s last call was reportedly made to her husband, Sameer. A special team comprising an Additional DCP, an ACP, and two senior inspectors is leading the investigation.
With the autopsy confirming death by asphyxia, authorities are working to determine motive and circumstances. Formal classification of the case as suicide or murder will depend on evidence from call records, financial transactions, and forensic reports. The case continues to draw significant attention within police circles in Cuttack.
