The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) organised an Urban Public Relations and Citizen Participation Programme across six locations in the city to mark two years of the state government’s development initiatives under the ‘Vikasara Dhara, Odisha Sara’ campaign.
Ekamra MLA Babu Singh called for active citizen participation, stating that the dream of a ‘Vikasit Bharat’ and ‘Vikasit Odisha’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi would be realised when citizens fully support government efforts.
Speaking at the main event held at the BMC headquarters, the MLA emphasised the importance of people’s involvement in the state’s development journey.
Mayor Sulochana Das, Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kanhar, BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana (IAS), Standing Committee Chairpersons Ramachandra Ranasingh and Shridhar Behera, City Engineer Prafulla Rout, and several corporators were present on the dais.
The Mayor and Commissioner briefed the gathering on various initiatives undertaken by BMC to enhance cleanliness, greenery, and the overall beauty of the city. They noted that Bhubaneswar currently ranks 9th in the country’s clean city list and highlighted ongoing efforts to further improve its ranking. Commissioner Rana stressed that citizen cooperation is essential to take Bhubaneswar to greater heights.
On this occasion, 30 individuals and organisations were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in different categories, including sanitation workers, garbage vehicle drivers, resident welfare associations, bulk waste generators, highest property tax payers, community organisers, PMAY beneficiaries, roadside vendors, and senior citizens.
Additionally, the Mayor handed over work orders for 14 development projects.
The programme was conducted simultaneously at six venues across the three zones of BMC. Zonal Commissioners, local corporators, deputy and assistant commissioners, representatives of local organisations, senior citizens, and over a thousand citizens participated enthusiastically.
The event was virtually connected to the state-level ‘Odisha Sara, Vikasara Dhara’ programme held in Puri.
Additional Commissioner Kailash Chandra Das coordinated the entire event.
